Happy Holidays

Some of us celebrate Christmas. Some of us celebrate Hanukkah . Hanukkah, a Jewish holiday is also known as the Festival of Lights. As Americans, we are able to celebrate any holiday we choose. Why do you think this choice is important? Would you be happy if the government forced to celebrate only certain holidays and events?

  1. I think it be awful if the government told me that I couldn't celebrate Christmas. I am free in the US to celebrate any holiday I want. If people dont' celebrate holidays that is ok too. I would hate to be forced to celebrate something I don't believe in.

  13. I think it would be horrible to have a government that only let us celebrate certain holidays. I am glad we are free to celebrate any holiday in the U.S.A. Its not right to force anyone to celebrate anything they do not want to. people should be able to celebrate what they want to.

  18. It would be very bad if that happened because my family gets together for almost every holiday such as: Thanksgiving,Christmas,Easter, etc. I am soooooo happy that this is not going to happen...or if it does happen, I would be ruined.

  20. To play Devil's Advocate for a moment...the government does indeed tell us what holidays are worth celebrating. They tell us through legislated holidays what are federally recognized importants dates...such as the 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, Martin Luther King Day, etc. How lucky we are to live in a country that celebrates diversity and recognizes its value. I think it is part of the job of government to transmit and convey democratic ideals and traditions such as recognized holidays. After all, it was Governor Bradford of Massachusetts who declared the 1st Thanksgiving Proclamation in 1623. It is thanks to him and others government officials that we eat turkey and watch football together on the 4th Thursday in every November!

  21. I think it would be awful if the goverment told me that I couldn't celebrate any kind of holiday. If I couldn't I would celebrate with my family at our house.I would hate to miss any kind of holiday that I love. Also it would be horrible if the U.S. couldn't do any kind of holiday any year. That's what I think of of "Happy Holidays" Have a fantastic Happy Holiday E.L.K.
