Social Networking
According to Brain Pop, " Social Networking sites are public---pretty much anyone can view your posts. So embarrassing pictures and inappropriate writing can easily be seen by parents, teachers, employers, and college admissions officers, among others." Did you know that some people have been fired from their jobs or kicked out of school because of their social networking posts? For instance, in 2005 a college student was expelled from Fisher College after the student posted nasty comments about the campus security officers on Facebook. In 2009, a NFL player was fired for sharing his anger over the cutting of another player. In 2008, 13 employees of an airline got fired after saying mean things about passengers on Facebook.
1) Social Media Websites require a person to be 13 or older when getting an account. Yet, some people lie about their age to get an account. Do you think it is ok to lie about your age and get an account before you are 13?
2) Do you think employers and school officials should hold things against their employees or students that are said on social media sites?
3) How would you make sure these kinds of things don't happen to you if you start to use social networking?
